Your itinerary

1. Seltún

The first thing you will notice when we arrive in Seltún, is the sulfur smell. This is the first sign of the underground activity. Under your feet, several active volcanic systems are making the whole peninsula very alive.

As we walk around the area, you will see the earth steaming and smoking, the mud boiling, and how the hydrogeothermal activity changed the colors of the surrounding rocks.

2. Lava field of Fagradalsfjall (2021)

In 2021, a new cycle of volcanic eruptions started. The volcano: Fagradalsfjall erupted the 19th of March 2021, with an eruption that lasted for 6 months.

Years later, the lava field is still steaming. We will take a short walk to the edge of this lava field and have a look at those very fresh rocks.

3. Gunnuhver Hot Springs

Gunnuhver is simply massive and impressive. You can hear the hot spring already from the parking lot. As you get closer, you find yourself in the middle of an immense cloud of steam.

As you can hear, feel, see and smell the spings of Gunnuhver, your guide will tell you about the story of a ghost who got lured inside the spring.

4. Volcanic craters of Stampar

Formed around 2000 years ago, Stampar is the named of two craters on the western part of the Reykjanes Peninsula.

This part of Reykjanes is extremely barren. Only dark, black, volcanic rocks as far as the eye can see. Once you get to the top of the crater, you will get a beautiful overview of this moon-like landscape.
