Borgarfjörður: The Silver Circle

Hraunfossar is the name of multiple waterfalls, that together, are what many would consider the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. These waterfalls have been flowing through a lava field for kilometers before coming out of the rocks and bushes and falling inside of a turquoise blue river.

Next to them is Barnafoss. It actually looks more like a torrent than a proper waterfall. Nonetheless, it looks absolutely stunning. Also, a sad, yet interesting legend is associated to them. It tells you why, a natural stone bridge over the river, no longer exists.

Hot water Pipes coming from Deildartunguhver can run for up to 60km with a heat loss of only about 2 degrees Celsius. We will stop there briefly, to see the water boiling, and gushing high above ground.
