Day One: South Coast Highlights

From Reykjavík to Vík, the Icelandic South Coast is a true land of wonders. Between glaciers and volcanoes, one can feel the real essence of Iceland, and the power of its contrasts.

You will see the most famous and most impressive waterfalls in the country: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. You will get close to the glacier of Sólheimajökull, an ash covered glacier. And finally, you will walk on the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, where its sea pillars and basaltic columns will leave you speechless.

If you have been watching the series "Game of Thrones", you will for sure recognize many sites of the South Coast.

We will spend the night in a hotel on the eastern side of the South Coast.

Day Two: Vatnajökull National Park

The glacier of Vatnajökull is the biggest glacier in Europe, and covers about 8% of the country. Surrounding it, is the National Park bearing the same name.

Inside of the park, are located the most beautiful places in Iceland. On this second day, our focus will be on ice and glaciers. We will visit the glacier lake of Fjallsarlón. But the most impressive and magical place of all will be the Jökulsarlón Glacier Lagoon and the so-called "Diamond Beach".

If global warming is a core concern globaly, and in Iceland in particular as we see our glaciers shrinking year after year, it did one thing right. It created the glacier lagoon: Jökulsarlón. As the Vatnajökull glacier is retreating due to climate change, it breaks down in chunks of ice, often bigger than houses. At the same time, the water from the ocean penetrates the land and fills in the void that was left in place of the glacier. This creates absolutely magical and unique landscape. Once those icebergs are done drifting all the way to the sea, the waves washes them back on a black sand beach, where they will eventually finish to melt. This beach is known by travelers as "Diamond Beach".

Suggestions of activities

During those two days, we offer plenty of options for personalization. Whether you prefer cultural activities to get to know more about our volcanoes or put on crampons and explore a glacier, it is possible.

Please let us know if you are interested in any of the following options.

Activities for Day One:

On the cultural side of things, we highly recommend visiting both the Lava Center, an interactive exhibition about volcanism in Iceland, and the Lava Show, where you get to see real molten lava poured down in front of you.

If adventure is more of your priority, why not follow us on a private glacier hike on the glacier of Sólheimajökull? Our professionnal guides will gear you up and bring you on a glacier exploration. A once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Activities for Day Two:

For the second day, choices are really season-dependent. In the summertime, you can do a boat ride on either Fjallsarlón or Jökulsarlón. Sailing around the icebergs will be the highlight of the day.

And if you are coming in the winter time, the absolute must-do of the park will be to visit a blue Ice Cave.
